CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE

The Norne Carbon Storage Hub stands as a pioneering solution to combat climate change by securely storing CO2 emissions subserface in Denmark. As global climate goals demand a significant reduction in CO2 levels, the IEA calls for capturing 100+ billion tons of CO2 by 2060. Denmark, with just 0.1% of global carbon emissions, aims to cut 70% by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2045. Denmark's geology makes it safe and efficient CO2 storage. The government sees CCUS as important in reaching the national emission reduction goals and announced its CCS proposal on August 20, 2023.
Norne Carbon Storage Hub's mission is to establish unique onshore storage systems at the Ports of Aalborg and Kalundborg, equipped with state-of-the-art CO2 reception facilities, pipelines, and injection wells, ensuring safe and permanent storage. Leveraging Denmark's favorable geological conditions, this large-scale onshore CO2 storage project addresses the urgent need to store CO2 emissions, supporting global climate goals and Denmark's commitment to carbon reduction.

ROSS ENERGY’S INVOLVEMENT
Ross Energy is the preferred technical partner for the Norne Carbon Storage Hub. With a foundation dating back to 2008, Ross Energy has extensive experience in well management services in a broad range of projects, including geothermal, oil and gas, natural gas, mineral exploration, and offshore wind.
Ross Energy's competence in CCS is underscored by our involvement in CCS projects since 2008. We've played a pivotal role in identifying suitable locations for safe CO2 storage, characterizing subsurface conditions, and modelling the behavior of injected CO2. Our technical expertise extends to drilling, well design, flow assurance, and subsurface evaluations, contributing to the success of prominent CCS projects like Northern Lights.
We have also been active in promoting geothermal understanding in Denmark and have contributed to geothermal research projects, emphasizing business case modelling and commercialization. Ross Energy's technical competence and extensive experience in qualifying locations for safe CO2 storage make us the right choice to support Norn CCS efforts.

Norne plans to begin operations in late 2026, aiming to store 20 million tons of CO2 annually by 2030, equivalent to half of Denmark's yearly CO2 emissions. Once injected into reservoirs, CO2 will mineralize and become a natural part of the subsoil. Onshore CO2 storage is cost-effective and manageable. Denmark's storage capacity exceeds by far the CO2 coming from national Danish emitters. This opens an opportunity for Denmark to store emissions from other European countries/emitters and thereby significantly contributing to global CO2 reductions. Denmark's natural resources and proactive approach make it a leader in climate action. The Norne Carbon Storage Hub demonstrates its commitment to impactful climate solutions, inspiring the global journey towards net-zero emissions and sustainability.
